Massive cybercrime takedown disrupts 1.4 million scam accounts.
Law enforcement agencies and major tech companies disrupted more than 1.4 million accounts and infrastructure used by scam networks operating across Southeast Asia. The operation, called “Disruption Week,” involved the U.S. Department of Justice, Thai police, global law enforcement, and companies including Apple, Google, Meta, Microsoft, Coinbase, SpaceX and others. Authorities also reported 63 arrests, disruption of malicious infrastructure, and more than $3.8 million in cryptocurrency assets frozen. The targeted schemes were linked to industrial-scale fraud compounds in Cambodia, Laos and Burma.
